Pair of silvered bronze candlesticks

18th century
Height. : 26,5 cm (10 in. ½) ; Diam. : 14 cm (5 in. ½)

Ravishing pair of baluster-shaped candlesticks in silvered bronze. The stems are sculpted with deep fluting which supports the fluted socket and removable nozzle. Each candlestick rests on a large circular base with undulating edges.

Wall sconces, chandeliers, candlesticks and candelabras considerably develop during the 17th century. Their refinement reflects the social situation of their owner. At the beginning of 18th century, ornemanistes bring a new life to decorative arts, liberating these from the Le Brun classicism and opening the way to Regence style, lighter and more intimate.
