Ref. 2911/1

A Louis XV style lady desk

Circa 1870

Height : 92 cm (36 1/4 in.) ; Length : 79 cm (31 in.) ; Depth : 50 cm (19 2/3 in.)

An elegant Louis XV style lady’s writing desk of serpentine shape, made in rosewood and satinwood veneer and adorned with a beautiful floral end-cut wooden marquetry. It stands on cabriole legs and opens a drop front, three drawers and a small sliding hatch opening on a secret locker.

This lady office reminds of the creations of Bernard II van Risamburgh (1696-1767), which were delivered to the apartments of Louis XV and Madame de Pompadour in the castle of Saint-Hubert, which included a “secretary walk doe, veneered in rosewood and purple wood, gilt ormolu ornaments to 220 pounds.”
