This painting is the portrait of a young fisher on the shore, her basket full after the fishing with the landing net at the background. The girl is dressed with coloured clothes typical of the fisher. Eugénie Salanson was indeed renown for her picturesque scenes of young fishers. She exhibited many paintings with such scenes with a very close attention to the treatment of the portrait. She was considered as one of the important female painter at the end of the 19th century.
