Charles X Table Rognon

France
Circa 1825

Height : 69 cm (27 in.) ; Width : 73 cm (28 3/4 in.) ; Depth : 40 cm (15 3/4 in.)

A very fine Charles X writing table veneered with lemonwood and amaranth. The kidney-shaped top is veneered with lines of amaranth and a central medallion with stylized palm leaves. The belt presents a frieze of amaranth marquetry. This table opens with two compartmentalized drawers and with a writing shelf covered with red leather. It stands on openwork sides linked with an X-stretcher.

This piece of furniture is typical of the Charles X period, which favoured the production of small tables and privileged the use of contrasting veneers presenting a dark marquetry on a light background or vice versa.
