A Charles X period writing table

Circa 1825

Height : 73 cm (28,7 in.) ; Width : 72 cm (28,3 in.) ; Depth : 44 cm (17,3 in.)

An elegant writing table from the Charles X period, veneered with lemontree and amaranth. The concave top is adorned with an ellipsoidal two-tone pattern. The belt, decorated with thin stylized ornaments, unveils a sliding writing surface covered with black and gold-tooled leather, fitted with its inkwell and quill holder. Resting on X-shaped feet linked with a stretcher and standing on patinated bronze lion feet.

This piece of furniture is typical of the Charles X period, which favored the production of small tables and privileged the use of contrasting veneers presenting a dark marquetry on a light background or vice versa.
